About Siargao

It’s touted the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines” but Siargao is so much more than just a place for finding awesome waves to ride. Before we get into the nitty-gritty of what makes Siargao overall amazing, we should talk about Cloud 9. It’s Siargao’s most popular surf with thick, hollow tubes – and was discovered in the late 1980s by traveling surfers. The annual Siargao cup is both a domestic and international competition held here and Cloud 9’s near-perfect waves were also featured by American photographer John S. Callahan in the US-based Surfer magazine in 1993.

But if Cloud 9 is too crowded for you, you can find various other quality waves here and on nearby islands, but none as famous as this one. Other activities you can do include island hopping: Naked Island (no, not people) has a 200-meter sandbank surrounded by crystal waters and blindingly white sand.

Another one worth visiting is Daku Island – dotted with clusters of swaying palms, it’s perfect for a lunchtime picnic.

A must-visit is the Sohoton Caves – they’re ranked as the number one attraction to visit in Siargao and when you enter the aquamarine lagoon, verdant coves and marvel at the variety of flora and fauna within the area, you won’t wonder why.

Fresh seafood is in abundance here – as Siargao is a culinary haven where you can head to the public market for the fresh catch or procure one yourself during an island excursion.

From hidden coves and white-sanded gems to the best rolling waves and more – there’s so much to do in Siargao that one visit won’t be enough.
