About Bataan

Bataan is a warrior’s land – with historical significance most remembered during the time of the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines. Many of its attractions display perserved heritage. One such is the Dambana ng Kagitingan where Filipino-Chinese soldiers joined together in the last battle before surrender to Japanese forces. It’s marked by a 30-foot cross on top of Mount Samat, reachable only by elevator.

There are two Zero KM Death March Markers in Bataan, one in Bagac and one in Mariveles. The Bagac marker is a short distance away from the Japan-Philippines Friendship tower which symbolizes peace and forgiveness between the two nations.

For an adventure worth remembering there’s Mount Samat Treetop adventure. It’s best to arrive at around 5PM for an amazing view of the sunset. The ride here is 540 meters long and lasts for less than a minute. More adventure can be had at the Balanga Wetland and Nature Park where you can rent a bike, go kayaking, boating and bird-watching.

Bataan is also famous for good food – taste traditional Vietnamese dishes such as hu tieu (savory noodle soup) and banh mi made fresh at Loleng’s Hu Tieu-an. Dessert lovers can snack on Geno’s famous gabi ice cream that sells for only P20 a cup.
