Where to Get Your Hair Done in Mandaluyong

by Colin Salao
August 17, 2018

Changing up your look is one of the best and easiest ways to reinvent yourself.

But because you won't leave the fate of your locks in just anyone's hands, we've gone ahead and done all the legwork for you. Here’s a list of the best hair salons located right in the heart of the metro, in Mandaluyong City.

Headzone Salon

INSTAGRAM: headzone.ph

Headzone Salon may be one of Deal Grocer’s newest partners, but it already has over 30 years of experience in the haircare industry under its belt. Formerly a fixture in five-star hotels such as EDSA Shangri-La, Headzone decided to make the jump across the street when it moved to Shangri-La Plaza in 2015. The move actually forced Headzone to drop its prices in order to cater to the price range of typical mall-goers.

No matter the location, Headzone’s wide clientele, ranging from yuppies to decade-long loyalists, are still given tip-top quality in hair service. The salon prides itself in being the pioneer of some of the best products to enter the Philippine market, such as the use of Finnish brand SensiDO for hair color, or Paris-based luxury brand Balmain Hair Couture for an array of treatments. In fact, Headzone doubles as a home base for the latter, and clients are pampered using Balmain products from the moment hair is first washed. This is definitely the go-to salon for customers looking to get a taste of luxurious brands.

Another fixture in the salon industry is Jesi Mendez, which boasts of 40 years of experience and over a dozen branches within and outside of Metro Manila. Their Mandaluyong branch can be found in Robinsons Galleria, and it serves as one of the company’s flagships. The branch has developed over its 28 years of operation in Galleria, and is designed to appeal to those who want a cozy and laid-back experience. It’s for this reason that Jesi Mendez markets itself as a family-friendly salon.

However, clients looking to feel glamorous can definitely still head over to Jesi Mendez. With makeup extraodinaire Jhonel Marayag in tow, Jesi Mendez Robinsons Galleria prides itself in its makeup services. It even features a 4-seater makeup area, perfect for workmates gearing up for a corporate event or a barkada preparing for a girls’ night out.

Another key positive about Jesi Mendez is the friendliness of its longtime staffers. The salon has maintained not only loyal customers, but also loyal employees who extend warmth and hospitality to each and every client that walks in.

Bench Fix & Bench Barbers

INSTAGRAM: benchtm

Bench Fix is a go-to for many haircare enthusiasts who are still looking for the best bang for their buck. A quick look at their price list shows affordable deals ranging from haircuts to treatments and hair coloring.

Despite Bench Fix’s low prices and the fact that they're the largest hair salon company in the country, they're still able to deliver the quality output expected from the Bench name. Many of their stylists received training directly under nationally recognized stylist Alex Carbonell, who is housed by the high-end version of the brand, Fix Studio. Local celebrities don’t just endorse the salon as well, as Bench Fix’s top stylists legitimately work on the likes of John Prats and Richard Gutierrez.

For men looking for a more masculine place to get their cuts and shaves, Bench also offers an alternative from the usual: Bench Barbers. Traditional barber shops are once again in trend, and Bench captures this with the brand they launched in 2016. The salon is designed to fit in with the old-school 1920s aesthetic (classic leather couches, bulky barber shop chairs, wooden walls, and industrial fixtures), when barbers first gained popularity. Once again, quality is not compromised for the hair salon giant, as their barbers are trained by Filipino-American Mark Bustos, who is known for giving free haircuts to the homeless in the US.
