Below, Ms. Calzado walks us through her inspiring fitness and wellness journey.

How has your relationship with fitness changed through the years?

I wasn’t always good at taking care of myself. My approach to fitness used a lot of shortcuts in the beginning, such as starvation, bulimia, diet pills, and a few cosmetic surgeries. A lot of depriving myself, then binging. Over the last nine years, I have been consciously healthier with the choices I make for my body—nutrition and fitness wise. Making loving decisions for my body was a healthy habit I eventually learned to embrace.

What’s your current workout routine like?

I started exercising by doing aerobics in 2001, and have since done almost every type of workout: boxing, weight training, running, Muay Thai, pole dancing, Barre, yoga, spinning, Lagree, Pilates, swimming, Zumba, and cross fit. My current routine is a mix of weight training with Culver Padilla, yoga, Pilates, lagree, and Zumba.

Do you follow a specific diet?

I just try to eat as clean as possible. I stay away from highly processed food—the more whole and natural, the better.

Why do you think there’s so much buzz on health and wellness these days?

Wellness of the mind, body, and spirit is important, and is the focus of today’s society because of the occurrence of so many diseases. I think we have finally come to an understanding that what we put into and what we do to our bodies is really vital to our health.

How do you balance self-care with fulfilling your responsibilities?

This can get very challenging when my schedule gets busy, but I try to make sure that I don’t have work on Sundays (as much as possible) just so I can be assured of one day for myself and my family. If I suddenly have a free day, I take full advantage of it!

How important is it for you to disconnect and unwind?

Very important! Our TV room at home is always the first place where we relax and unwind, and then we move to the bedroom about an hour before sleeping to fully zone out. I try not to use my phone inside the bedroom.

How does The Farm align with your own beliefs on holistic wellness?

The Farm at San Benito is my happy place, and we have the same vision of centering and cleansing the mind, body, and spirit.

I first went to The Farm when I was healing my broken heart from a bad breakup. I manifested the “man of my dreams” during that trip, and a few months later I met my fiancé!

You have to commit to loving and caring for yourself. Nourish your mind, body, and soul properly and mindfully to get that healthy glow from within.
