Sam Pinto Shares The Real Inspiration Behind Her Baler Resort

by Maia Marquez

Sam Pinto is a proud water baby.

Not a lot of people know that, but they do know her as Sam Pinto, the multi-hyphenate celebrity who has graced several magazine covers and print ads. A mainstream figure in local showbiz, she's also the same Sam Pinto who has acted in movies alongside seasoned actors and actresses like Sarah Geronimo, Gerald Anderson, and Judy Ann Santos.

As busy as her schedule may be, Sam seeks comfort in surfing and being near the water. In fact, her business ventures—a bikini line called Sirena Swimwear PH and her L'Sirene Boutique Resort in Baler—are two prime examples of her love for the laidback beach life.

Having first opened its doors in March 2017, L'Sirene Boutique Resort is a peaceful paradise for surfing enthusiasts and beach lovers seeking a crowd-less escape in Baler.

In an exclusive interview with DG Traveler, Sam Pinto talks about L'Sirene and the magic that comes with it.

Describe a day in the life of Sam Pinto.

Sam: Nowadays, I wake up early to answer e-mails and work on the marketing of the resort. I take breaks by walking my dog along the beach and watching a movie or series ‘til I fall asleep. It's very chill.

How did you get into surfing?

Sam: I had an event in La Union about 7 years ago. I’m very adventurous, so I wanted to try surfing—and I fell in love! It was perfect for me ‘cause I love the water and the beach, plus it’s a full body workout too!

What is the inspiration behind L’Sirene?

Sam: The main inspiration is a mermaid, because my family calls me that. I learned how to swim first before I learned how to walk, so I’m really a water baby. Plus, there’s the surfing too. So it’s just a combination of all of those together.

L’Sirene means ‘the siren’ in French. I wanted it to be different and classy at the same time. Also, I wanted its design to be all white and clean—a mix of modern and homey feels.

Of all the places in the Philippines, what made you choose Baler?

Sam: Surfing, of course. The beach stretch is so long that you can surf anywhere! Well, another thing is with my work schedule, it’s easy to go to Baler if I just have a day off, ‘cause you just drive—no need to fly or anything.

What kind of traveler will enjoy L’Sirene and why?

Sam: I think all kinds of travelers will enjoy L’Sirene—families and barkadas, which is why I made all rooms good for 4. It’s just a small resort with 15 rooms.

It’s not super crowded and sometimes it'll feel like you have the whole place to yourselves.

I think if you want a more peaceful, quiet stay and your own private beachfront, this is where you'll go, ‘cause it’s far from the main city.

If you can describe the resort in just one word, what would it be and why?

Sam: Magical. That’s what you'll feel when you visit.
