An Eco-Friendly Lakeside Haven: Aquascape Lake Caliraya in Laguna

by Danna Peña
January 16, 2020

Fleeing the city has become more and more romanticized, and there's a good reason why this pervasive longing has become a twenty-first-century dream. Life’s pace has been moving at an increasingly fast speed, and in order to have some semblance of sanity—or mindfulness, to put it mildly—we need to slow down. When you reside in one of the many megalopolises the Philippines is home to, you owe it to yourself to indulge in a back-to-basics hideaway whenever you can.

Just a 3-4 hour drive away from the capital’s center is Aquascape Lake Caliraya, a no-brainer vacation spot where you can simply be. For the city folk, this is the bucolic place that can give you just the mental reset you need. Whether you’re the type to peacefully lay on a hammock all day, or the type to hop on a jet ski, paddleboard, or kayak under the sun, this Cavinti gem will fulfill all your idyllic wishes. (A word of warning: you’ll never want to leave.)

Situated in a vast and tranquil watershed

Upon arrival at Aquascape Lake Caliraya, saunter through the estate’s lush paths and witness rustic villas and an immense lake that holds its most sought-after accommodations. Imagine this: beautiful, spacious, and native-style cottages amidst a picturesque lake—and one of them can be your home for the night. You almost feel time stand still as you get caught up in its verdant landscapes, calm-as-a-millpond lake, and invigorating countryside air. Because the property is situated on a natural watershed and its vicinity is thriving, expect the climate to be relatively cool, especially throughout the night.

Comprising land-based rooms and floating houses, each of Aquascape’s rooms have unique characteristics that make every lodging space special. Its smallest rooms have a maximum capacity of four people while its largest can accommodate ten, so whether you’re on a romantic getaway with your significant other, or on a vacation with your friends or family, there is ample room for you and your loved ones.

Creatures of comfort may turn down the idea of a nature escape, but Aquascape Lake Caliraya’s cottages provide modest accommodations that are a far cry from ‘roughing it out’. In their Floating Cabana outfitted with 1 double bed and 2 couches, plus an optional mattress, guests can keep cool with a ceiling fan and a standing fan, and whip up meals in a small kitchen decked with a gas stove and LPG griller. There’s also a mini-bar area, a television, a DVD player, a hammock, and two outdoor seats, providing all you need for leisure.

Besides evoking a sense of home, what’s most impressive is the craftsmanship put into creating the furniture and fixtures, as the rooms’ design pays homage to the bahay kubo with a modern twist. Notably, all floating houses operate and charge on solar electricity, a commendable effort in reducing energy and creating an eco-friendly lodging. These beautiful floating houses are also motorized and can be driven across the expanse of the lake by a trained staff member.

Do nothing or enjoy a multitude of activities

Whatever your inclination is on the introversion-extraversion scale, Aquascape Lake Caliraya has pockets of tranquility and adrenaline-pumping activities, making it a gem of a sanctuary that caters to all kinds of personalities. Wake up to birds chirping outside and natural sunlight gleaming through the windows, and choose to spend the day leisurely reading on a hammock, taking a dip in their pool, or laying on of their sunbeds, if you’re one to bask in a sense of calm.

Are you the type to get moving? If so, immerse in the flourishing setting by kayaking, riding an ATV, or jet skiing the day away. Other thrilling activities include the use of their Electric Mountain Bike, Banana Boat, Buggy Car, Speedboat, Flying Bird, and Tsinelas, which can all be rented out. Guests checked into a floating room are entitled to a 1-hour sunrise or sunset cruise and unlimited kayak use, while their unique amenities like their infinity swimming pool, Doctor Fish Spa, and open-air jacuzzi are both free for use for all checked-in guests.

An idyllic place to bond with your dearest—pet included

If you’re on the lookout for a place to recharge and bond with loved ones, Aquascape is the perfect choice. Leave all your worries behind, wallow in pure bliss amidst your tranquil surroundings, and enjoy your privacy as you luxuriate in your cottage’s lakefront views. Some vacations stray away from serving the purpose of a relaxing break, but Aquascape allows guests to step back, recharge, and fully be present in each other’s company—as there’s little to no Wi-Fi signal available.

There’s no need to leave your furry best friend behind either. With a 1 pet per room policy for all rooms, you can go on that much-needed getaway with your beloved pet. Just make sure to be a responsible pet owner and follow the property’s pet policies, such as the prohibition of pets on the beds and couches.

Things to Remember

Bring your own food or cook your own. Make a stop at the Cavinti or Lumban public markets nearby to buy ready-to-eat meals or ingredients for cooking on your own. Since you’ll need a car to drive to food establishments in the vicinity, it is highly encouraged to bring your own food and drinks.

Bring outerwear. Though it gets warm in the daytime, expect chilly temperature all throughout the night. Bring a cardigan or a sweater to keep warm when it gets cool.

Bring toiletries, towels, and a first-aid kit. Take all your items for personal hygiene or any personal medications. Pack all your necessities with you as the property's location is quite secluded.

Allow yourself to disconnect. The Wi-Fi signal is generally spotty all throughout the estate, so use the opportunity to fully be present with your loved ones. 'Disconnect to connect' is the recommended mindset.

Leave no trace behind. Practice kindness and mindfulness toward the environment. Bring your own trash bag, do not litter, and leave your surroundings as pristine as when you arrive.
