A Taste of the World: 9 International Cuisine Restaurants in Baguio

by Adriano Agpayso
June 3, 2018

While Baguio boasts an impressive local cuisine of its own, it has a few worthy international cuisine dining spots too.

Don’t be afraid to explore other flavors in the city. These restaurants will not only sate your worldly palate, they'll fill your bellies up as well. Scroll below!

1. Chaya (Japan)

Offering contemporary Japanese food along with its warm and cozy ambiance, Chaya starts our list of must-try restaurants in Baguio. You'll find it inconspicuously tucked inside a converted home-compound along Legarda Road, which would explain for its relaxed environment.

Chaya's menu has everything from Spicy Tuna Salad to Sukiyaki Bowls, but the more adventurous ones should try their hands at rolling their own sushi–definitely a fun activity for the family and kids. The dishes may be slightly pricey, but if you have some money to burn, it's very much well worth it.

2. Pizza Volante (Italy)

Offering a slice of Italy in Baguio, Pizza Volante is well-known for their 21 different types of pizzas, including six vegetarian variations.

My personal favorites are the Feta Tomato Olive Pizza and Roast Chicken Pizza. Don't forget to try their pasta as well. For dessert, Mama Lou's Apple Pie paired with a cup of brewed coffee (with free refills!) always does the trick.

3. Yes Pho (Vietnam)

Yes Pho may be a relatively new addition to Baguio's gastro landscape, but they don’t pull any punches when it comes to authentic Vietnamese dishes. Their Pho (noodle soup) and Buns (dry noodles) are flavorful, mixed with herbs and a variety of meats and vegetables giving them their unique texture and taste.

Another dish I recommend is their Fresh Spring Roll. Dipped in their peanut sauce, one order just might not be enough. Yes Pho’s current set-up is endearingly small yet quirky, and their affordable food sits right at home for travelers on a budget.

4. Glenn 50’s Diner (America)

Like something straight out of a movie, 50’s Diner serves as a classic throwback to an era long gone. Old-school Americana movie posters and memorabilia ornate the restaurant, giving off a sense of nostalgia.

Their menu, on the other hand, although boasting of a number of choices, is nothing to write home about. Still, you can order your favorites from Pancakes, Burgers and Fries, Milkshakes, and an assortment of classic American meals for very reasonable prices and hefty servings.

5. Good Taste (China)

Alright, I'm cheating a little bit. Technically, this should count as Filipino-Chinese fusion, but I can't do a list of Baguio restaurants without mentioning everybody's favorite go-to comfort food. With generous servings paired with affordable prices, it has become a favorite among locals and tourists. ' INSTAGRAM: anjkalma

Treat your barkada to Good Taste's bestselling Buttered Chicken and Crispy Pata, you'll definitely get your bang for your buck. Aside from hot meals, Good Taste is equipped with their own bakery. Their Cream Puffs run out quick, too! Long lines are common here, despite having three spacious floors to serve diners, l We think that it's a testament to their well-deserved popularity!

6. Chef Restaurant (Middle East)

If you're looking for Middle-Eastern flavors in Baguio, try heading over to Chef Restaurant (not to be confused with Chef’s Home Restaurant which is also on our list) located at Guevarra St., corner Rimando Road.

With a halal menu, enjoy their Hummus and Mutabal Dips for starters then segue to their Massalah or Curry dishes for your main course. Their Special Shawarma, chicken and vegetable bits wrapped in pita bread, is also a great choice especially for people on the go.

7. Kung Jeon - Korean Palace (Korea)

One Korean place to rule them all. With Korean restaurants literally scattered all over Baguio, Kung Jeon sets themselves apart with their atmosphere and great service. Another converted home resto, Kung Jeon is most known for their Samgyeopsal Buffet where you can grill your own food for P399

The owners are friendly and accommodating, and their staff follows suit attending to customers with much enthusiasm. After your meal, amuse yourselves by dressing up in the traditional Korean attire they have on display outside. Have a fun photoshoot where you can finally fulfill all your K-Drama fantasies.

8. Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna (Greece)

Being the first and only Greek restaurant in town, Lemon and Olives offers a remarkably unique dining experience for hungry, adventurous mouths. Set yourselves up at their al-fresco area to get a breathtaking view of Baguio's landscape, then order from their selection of authentic Greek food such as their open-faced Souvlaki plates and Moussaka dishes.

For dessert, their mouth-watering Baklava is highly-recommended for its honey and cinnamon finish. Lemon and Olives is located a little away from Baguio's center which makes it ideal if you're trying to escape the city's hustle and bustle.

9. Chef's Home (Southeast Asia)

Rounding up our list of International-cuisine restaurants is Chef's Home. Chef's Home is a personal favorite, garnering numerous positive reviews for their specialization of Thai and Southeast Asian cuisine. This 'hole-in-the-wall' establishment reflects the humility of the owners, placing more emphasis on the quality of their dishes than superficial aesthetics.

Start off with an order of Thai Crispy Papaya Salad followed by some Tom Yum Soup, whose spicy, tangy flavor holds perfectly well for Baguio's cool climate. Chef's Home menu differs regularly depending on the availability of the ingredients they use, making sure dishes are always fresh and well-balanced.
