But sometimes, tried-and-tested just won't cut it when you're craving a bit of excitement. If you're looking for unconventional ways to spend the night with your significant other, here are some unexpected date ideas worth trying out.
1. Go on a sunset cruise.
The boulevard fronting Manila Bay is one of the best sunset viewing spots in the city. Up the ante by boarding the bay's famed sunset cruise, and watch the sun go down together as the ferry buoys over tangerine-tinged waters.

3. Stroll through Intramuros.
Boasting a collection of historic structures that date back to the Spanish colonial period, the Walled City of Intramuros is a favorite destination among history lovers. Walk the complex's cobblestone streets during daytime, and at dusk, head to The Bayleaf Intramuros's Sky Deck View Bar for a spectacular vista of Manila's nighttime skyline. Cap off your evening with street food, which can be found at every corner.
4. Attend a poetry reading.
Nothing spells romance better than the perfect poem. Bring your beau to a poetry reading for a night of rhyme, rhythm, and verse. Better yet, muster up the courage to go onstage and read out the poem you wrote declaring your love! Catch a show by Filipino spoken word collective Words Anonymous, or experience an open mic night at literary hubs like Warrior Poet Art Cafe in Cubao or Conspiracy Garden Cafe in Quezon City.
5. Head to Tagaytay on a motorcycle.
You've probably already gone on a Tagaytay date by car, but have you ever tried doing so on a motorcycle? The cool breeze whipping against your hair and the expanse of road stretching out ahead of you make for a fun, exhilarating experience. Ride Along Tours specializes in motorcycle tours to various points in the Philippines, including trips to Tagaytay and adjacent Taal. Motorcycles can be rented with or without an accompanying driver.

6. Take a hike—literally.
A hike can be the perfect antidote to a stressful week in the city. It also helps strengthen a couple's teamwork and resolve—there's nothing quite like tackling a mountain together and finally reaching the summit for an unmatched view of the scenery below. Make it even more romantic with a picnic at the summit or campsite.
Various climbs can be done just an hour or two away from the city, and fortunately, many of them are perfectly suited for novices. Rizal is popular for such treks with its beginner-friendly mountains, as are Batangas and Cavite.

8. Do a heritage tour of Santa Ana district.

Included in the collection of the Church's most prized antiquities are an 11th century AD porcelain bowl, a pre-Spanish era burial site, and floor tiles from the Ming Dynasty.
Surrounding the Church are 19 historic houses, including the 80-year-old Santos House and the Lichauco House, declared by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as a heritage house.
